"Human Rights Defenders of NARD harrassed and repeatedly arrested for calling for return to democracy and respect for Human rights in Sudan"
Thursday, 18 November 1999. Human rights lawyer Ghazi Suleiman was arrested for the fifth time in 1999 by the government of Sudan for calling for a restoration of democracy in Sudan with full respect for the human rights that the government of Sudan has agreed to respect in international human rights treaties it has signed. The immediate reason for the last arrest was an attempt to hold a press conference with a live telephone link to John Garrang.
