VERSION 2.0 OF THE HOME PAGE CREATOR RELEASED
We proudly announce Home Page Creator 2.0, which is now much more than just
a home page creator. This new version is a full-fledged web site creation
tool, and we dare say that it is the easiest way to get your site onto the
web. No knowledge of HTML, FTP, or other Internet protocols is required
(although you can still use HTML to spice up your pages). Nor do you have
to rent any server space, as we provide that to you for free. We are very
excited about this new version, as it offers a number of improvements over
the Classic version, including the following:
* File uploads for graphics and sound files
* A separate directory for each user
* Easier creation of multiple page sites using the same username and
password
* A Web Site Manager that lists all of your pages and allows you to view,
modify, copy, rename, or delete them, as well as create new pages, update
your account profile or delete your account altogether, activate or
deactivate your guestbook, upload graphics, and upload sounds. It also
lists your current web space used (we are initially allowing 200k per user,
but we expect to increase this amount soon).
* Your own personal guestbook
* Your own personal search engine that will search only your web site
* A form maker that will allow you to easily set up a customized form where
your visitors can enter information and then click on a button to have
their information e-mailed to you
* More color choices
* Nicer interface and simpler navigation (we hope!)
* Optional environment variables (current date and time, visitor's IP
address, visitor's browser, page where visitor came from)
* A powerful new search engine that allows you to search our members' web
sites to find people who share your interests
* A new co-branding program that will allow other web sites to host their
own communities using our Home Page Creator (if you host a web site and are
interested in this opportunity, please contact us by e-mail at
"webmaster@dcregistry.com")

GIGI ONLINE JOINS THE D.C. REGISTRY
We are also pleased to announce that Gigi Online has joined the D.C.
Registry. Gigi writes movie reviews that don't pull any punches. Before
you see another movie, be sure to read Gigi's review first. Gigi also has
lots of movie reviews from the past year, as well as a video guide and a
guide to the top ten theaters in the Washington, DC area. You can also win
free movie tickets from the D.C. Registry by answering Gigi's movie trivia
question correctly and being selected in the drawing. A new trivia contest
is held each month. The current contest concerns the upcoming Academy
Awards.

UPGRADED CLASSIFIED ADS COMING SOON
We plan to release a substantially improved version of our free Classified
Ads in late March. This new version will include a number of new features,
including automatic pruning of old ads, automatic e-mail notification to
users whose ads are set to expire in seven days, a newly simplified search
results page (with links to the full version of each ad), new captions for
the ads, a new "personal inbox" for the personal ads so that you don't have
to reveal your e-mail address in the ad if you don't want to, and a new
subscription feature that you can sign up for to receive automatic
notification of ads that you are interested in. The new version will also
include a nicer interface and an improved registration process that can
e-mail you your password if you ever forget it. Despite all of these
improvements, the new version will maintain our current ads, so please feel
free to post your free classified ads using the current version. As you
may have noticed, our current classified ads now include a number of recent
job postings from local high-tech firms, as well as a large number of real
estate ads (especially roommates wanted ads) and personal ads. These are
all highly searchable, down to the exact number of bedrooms and bathrooms,
salary range, etc.

MAKE THE REGISTRY YOUR HOME PAGE
Finally, we have added a new link on our front page that explains how you
can make the Registry your browser's home page so that it comes up
automatically when you first start your browser. The page includes easy to
follow instructions for Netscape (versions 3 and 4) and Internet Explorer
(versions 3 and 4). That way, you can start your day with all of the
latest news, weather, traffic reports, and other local information from the
Registry. To make us your home page, please go to the following URL:

As always, if you enjoy the Registry, we ask that you please spread the
word! With your help, the D.C. Registry will continue to be the finest
online source for information on the Washington, DC area. Thank you for
being part of Washington's Online Community.
