About ... Jan Pottker A celebrated writer and public speaker, Jan Pottker is the recent author of Celebrity Washington: Who They are, Where They Live and Why They're Famous. It is metropolitan Washington's first celebrity map and address book. Celebrity Washington also provides movie locations and favorite restaurants of the area's famous. Jan is a quest lecturer for Celebrity Cruise Line, Leisure World, and educational institutions in Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine. She has appeared on NBC's Inside Edition, ABC's Working Woman, CNBC's Business Today, and CNN's Sonia Live. In addition to her regular lectures, she has been featured on more than 200 radio shows and has spoken to more than 60 social, business and professional groups, receiving rave reviews.
Her published work includes, Crisis in Candyland: Melting the Chocolate Shell of the Mars Family Empire (National Press Books, 1996). Named one of the year's 10 best books by MBA Magazine, it has been serialized in the Moscow Times and translated into Czechoslovakian and Russian. Born to Power: Heirs to America's Leading Businesses (Barron's 1992), in which she profiled 50 heirs to prominent family businesses, was her fourth book. In 1987 Dodd, Mead published Jan's third book, Dear Ann, Dear Abby: An Unauthorized Biography of Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren. Optioned for a television movie, Dear Ann, Dear Abby sold more than 270,000 copies.

Jan's research and writing have led to her inclusion in Contemporary Authors, Men and Women in Science, Who's Who in Finance and Industry and other "who's who" listings. Her first two books, co-authored with her husband, Andrew S. Fishel, were Sex Bias in The Schools: The Research Evidence and National Politics and Sex Discrimination in Education.
Born in Lake Forest, IL, Jan has a Ph.D. from Columbia University and is married to Andrew S. Fishel. They live in Potomac, MD, with their two daughters. Jan is active in local, state and national endeavors, and serves as a trustee of the Friends of the Library, Inc., of Montgomery County, MD.
