"Author, speaker Jan Pottker peruses the menu in front of Cafe Milano in Georgetown, where she and her tour guests could run into such celebrities as Denzel Washington, Patrick Ewing or Tracy Ullman."
IT'S OUTRAGEOUS, IT'S GOSSIP, BUT IT'S FUN! Based on her latest book, Celebrity Washington: Who They Are, Where They Live and Why They're Famous, Jan Pottker, author, speaker, Washington insider, and noted biographer conducts a chatty stroll though star-studded Georgetown. Stopping outside numerous celebrity houses and other locations, tourists learn the secrets of the Rich, the Powerful and the Famous.
Why is the Celebrity Georgetown Walking Tour unique ?
Celebrity Georgetown Walking Tour is the only walking tour in Washington D.C. that focuses on today's celebrities --famous people who are still living in Georgetown. Unlike traditional walking tours, which show houses that belonged to famous people of the past, Celebrity Georgetown Walking Tour takes the visitor to more than two dozen locations of people who are in the news today.
Who are some of the people whose houses you visit?
The Celebrity Georgetown tour walks to the homes of the such famous media icons as Katherine Graham, Ben Bradlee, Brett Hume and Rowland Evans. You will also look at the house of five-time Grammy winner Mary Chapin Carpenter. It takes you to the houses owned by White House lawyer Lloyd Cutler and former White House press secretary to JFK, Pierre Salinger. On the tour, people can see where tell-all biographer Kitty Kelley lives and even get a glimpse of her red Mercedes with the license plate that reads, "Meow." You'll see where Bob Woodward of Watergate fame lives, political cartoonist Herblock and novelist Herman Wouk. You'll visit the house of Courtney Kennedy (Bobby and Ethel's daughter), where she lives with her husband Paul Hill, who was portrayed in the movie In The Name of The Father, starring Daniel Day Lewis. And you'll gaze at a few houses of the ultra-rich, such as those belonging to Laughlin Phillips of the Phillips Collection of Art, and to the late Pam Harriman. You'll also go to the house owned by Madeline Albright, U.S. Secretary of State.
What other houses will you see on the tour?
You'll see a few Georgetown houses that gained celebrity due to past owners: the house where Jackie and Jack Kennedy lived where he ran Campaign Central and where he was elected president. You'll see the house that two Secretaries of State resided in: Henry Kissinger and Cyrus Vance. You'll see where Elizabeth Taylor lived during her seventh marriage to U.S. Senator John Warner of Virginia. You'll see CIA spook William Colby's house. You can look at the house where Jackie Kennedy moved for four months after her husband was assassinated that she left to move to Manhattan because the public was hounding her. And many more.
Are the houses the only locations the tour visits?
No, you'll go to movie sites from the movies True Lies, Dave, St. Elmos's Fire and even the upcoming Enemy of the State, starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman. In addition, you'll see the house Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver lived in while he was filming True Lies. And you'll hear how Hollywood remodeled a house in order to shoot The Exorcist in Georgetown.
What else will people see?
They'll step into such restaurants as Cafe Milano, and hear about how Patrick Ewing and Denzel Washington eat there. They'll learn who likes to eat at Morton's of Chicago- The Steakhouse, who eats at Martin's Tavern, at Fetoosh, at Saigon Inn and many other restaurants.
When is the tour offered?
